Who is David Hartshorn?

David’s professional life began with hands-on jobs, assisting his father and grandfather in the furniture moving business, working long hours jackhammering for pipelines in Nevada, and taking on roles in fast food, prep cooking, and janitorial services. His career took a significant turn in December 2001 when he joined the Army, where he served until being medically retired in 2009. Post-retirement, David continued to leverage his skills through various government contracts overseas and domestically, eventually becoming a government employee.

Educational Background

David’s academic credentials include:

• Associate Degree in Computer Technology from Central Texas College
• Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology and Network Security from Western Governors University
• Master’s Degree in Cybersecurity and Information Assurance from Western Governors University
• Leadership Education and Development Program from the Army Management Staff College

Additionally, he has held numerous professional certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, CEH, A+, Network+, Security+, Linux+, Project+, CLNP, CIOS, CSSS, CIW WFA, CCENT, CCNA, MTA, MCP, MCSE, MCTIP, LPI Linux Administrator, LPIC-1, and several non-IT certifications, including PADI Open Water Diver, Advanced Scuba Diver, and Advanced Executive Protection (CPC).

Career Path

David’s career in IT began in the Army with Signal Operations and evolved into the role of a 25B Information Technology Specialist. His civilian career saw him progressing from Help Desk support to Systems Administrator, SharePoint/Web Administrator, Customer Service Branch Supervisor, IT Operations Manager, and currently, Program and Engineering Services Division Manager. This extensive experience has made him a well-rounded IT generalist.

Personal and Creative Pursuits

Outside of his professional life, David is a passionate content creator. He manages DavidTries, SurvivingAdventures blogs, Instagram, and YouTube channels that share advice and insights on motivation, leadership, cars, and men’s lifestyle topics. His popular site, DavidTries, reflects his varied interests (ADHD), including blogging, video creation, marketing, vehicle maintenance, construction, aquaponics, three-gun competitions, and primitive survival skills. David is also a dedicated father and a multifaceted individual with a rich array of hobbies and interests.
